INTRODUCTION

On December 8, 2019, pneumonia cases of unknown origin were identified in Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei province in China. The pathogen has since been identified as a novel
enveloped Ribo Nucleic Acid (RNA) beta coronavirus that has currently been named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2).

This novel coronavirus (nCoV) was identified by Chinese authorities on 7th January 2020 and was temporarily named “2019-nCoV”. Corona viruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illnesses ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases.
